Prompt Therapy
Come to The Communication Station.....
We will incorporate oral motor Prompts for Restructuring the Oral Muscular Phonetic
Targets (PROMPT) therapy into your child’s session.
What is PROMPT?
The PROMPT system is a hands-on treatment which gives your child sensory input
for shaping their articulators to accurately produce sounds and sequences.
This method requires the SLP to give the child prompts on the surface of
his or her face in order to elicit the right movement of his or her articulators.
This system addresses all aspect of speech including but not limited to jaw
stability, prosody (intonation), co-articulation, and the movements of your
child’s tongue.
What types of children does it help?
Speech and Language Disorders, Apraxia, Autism, Hearing Impaired, Sensory
Integration Disorders
PROMPT can be worked on in conjunction with children using alternative and
augmentative communication systems, including but not limited to picture symbol
system, sign language or assistive technologies.
How does an SLP who is trained in PROMPT incorporate the technique
into their speech and language therapy?
As with all approaches used in our clinic, PROMPT will be used in conjunction
with multiple approaches to make your child reach his or her optimal potential.
The PROMPT system focuses on how sounds are made in isolation and in sequences.
It can be paired with all goals related to speech and language skills.
How will parents be able to carryover techniques at home?
Trained SLPs in the PROMPT system will educate parents about their child’s
goals. Parents will be given simple instructions to carryover specific techniques
in the home environment.
How many times a week does my child need to be seen to make progress?
Your child will be seen twice a week for 30 minute sessions. After 16 sessions
a progress report will be completed. If future goals are needed, they will
be addressed at that time.
