Social Skills/Dyad Instruction

As children develop language, social skills may be lacking. Social skills instruction, with an emphasis on social language, is known to be the key to academic success. Therefore, we offer services to assist with this need.

Dyad Instruction

For ages 2-18

To facilitate peer to peer socialization, an experienced Speech Pathologist guides each session based on each child’s individualized goals. This structured lesson assists children with carrying over their designated skills to a naturalistic environment with one peer. In the safe and comfortable setting of the therapy room, with a trained Speech-Language Pathologist and one other child, children can learn to communicate, cooperate and converse with a peer. This first step will help them as they work towards communicating socially in a group setting. Parent involvement is essential at the end of each session to assist with generalization of the goals that each child has worked on.

Speech and Language Enrichment Groups

These groups are designed for ages 2-18 for children who have difficulty with socialization, especially those who need extra guidance with following directions, vocabulary and expressing themselves. Only a few children are in a group with an experienced Speech-Language Pathologist who will be focusing on each child’s individualized needs, while working in a group of children with similar needs. Generalization is more likely to occur when carry over of goals is established in a highly structured session and guided by an experienced professional Speech-Language Pathologist.
